Jack David: The Birth Story

My baby boy is 7 1/2 months old.  I can't even believe it!

He has grown and changed so much and he is such a joy!

He loves to scream and giggle.  He thinks it's funny when I walk into another room to scream bloody murder, and then when I walk back to check on him, he is just a laughing!

He is so fun, he bring so much joy into my life everyday.

I haven't ever written his birth story down and I would really like to so I can save it for him to read when he's older and ready to start his own family.

So I'll write it here and print out the page, and all the comments for his scrapbook.

May 1, 2014

3:00 PM: Dr's appointment.  I was still only dilated to 1 cm, and about 50% effaced.  Discussed options and decided to schedule an induction the next day, May 2 at 7 AM.

6:00 PM: Keith took me to dinner at Chinese.  Contractions became VERY painful during dinner, but were still too far apart to go to the hospital.   I did NOT want to get sent home again.

10:00 PM: Bed time, contractions so painful I could no longer breathe, walk, or talk.  Tried to lay in bed for a few hours but I was in so much pain I couldn't lay flat.  Tried a warm bath, and a lot of pacing the floor. I was really trying to tolerate the pain until 6:30 when we planned to go to the hospital, I figured we were scheduled to start anyway, we would just have to use less Pitocin to get the process going.

May 2, 2014

2:30 AM: Contractions became so painful I woke Keith with my grunting and moaning and he convinced me to call the hospital. They told me to come in.

3:00 AM: Made it to the hospital, got hooked up to monitors and the nurse checked my progress.  I was dilated to a 5, and 75% effaced.  I had made a LOT of progress. The nurse called my Dr. to update him and ask about an epidural.  He gave me the go ahead to get the epidural, but Keith and I talked and decided I would wait "just a little longer."

5:00 AM: I was DYING.  We called the Nurse Anesthetist and I got my epidural.  For me, the epidural was the scariest part. A friend of mine had a baby a few months before and the epidural had broken off in her back and she had to have back surgery immediately after she had her baby. So I was way scared! Keith held me while they put it in, and I FINALLY got some relief.  We watched nick at nite and slept for about an hour.
6:00 AM: The doctor came in to check me and HOLY cow! I was at 7 already.  He told me it wouldn't be much longer.  I called my mom and she left work and came down to Gunnison to be with me.

7:00 AM: My mom was there just in time for the Dr. to break my water.  (That was a weird feeling)

9:30 AM: Set up the room and got ready to start pushing.

9:50 AM Pushed once

10:00 AM Jack's heart rate was dropping too quickly to continue a normal delivery.  My doctor told me I needed a c-section.  (for those of you that don't know, this was my worst nightmare, from the time I got pregnant I had had nightmares about having an emergency c-section)  I bawled.  I was so scared. They took Keith away to get him scrubbed up for the OR and my mom had to say goodbye to me.  At this point, I was all alone.  Okay, not really cause I had some awesome nurses and the Nurse Anesthetist stayed with me the whole time.  But I was SO scared.

10:15AM: I was in the OR waiting for keith, scared to death, crying shaking and freezing.  Finally after what seemed like hours, Keith walked in all scrubbed up. The doctor told me they were going to start.  Then I felt a little pressure.

It seemed like the worked on me forever, and I just kept asking. Is everything okay? Is Jack okay? Where is Jack, is he out? Why isn't he crying.

10:21 AM: Then I heard it. Jack's first scream! He was far away with the respiratory therapist, but Keith got to go to him and see him, and he got to bring him over to me so I could see him.  Our awesome N.A. took a bunch of pictures of us together.

Jack's First Picture

First time I saw him!

Then Keith took him away down to the nursery to get weighed.  He was 5 lb 10 oz and 21 inches long.  He was having a hard time getting his temperature up, so he had to be in the incubator for about 15-20 minutes.

Meanwhile, I was in the OR, all alone with all of this medical stuff and nurses and doctors around me.  I was scared.  They kept telling me to try to go to sleep.. But yeah, right.  I was scared to death and all I wanted was to see my baby boy!!!!

FINALLY about an hour later, they wheeled me out of the OR down the hall to my room where all of my family was waiting for me.  Keith, my mom and dad, Kayden, Jill, Nadean, Shelly and David, Maria and Will were all waiting for me.  Keith had Jack.  When we were going into the OR they asked me who could hold him before me, and I said no one.  But I guess Keith was the exception ;)

Then, after what seemed like YEARS of waiting, they handed me my beautiful baby boy.  My Jack. he was here, he was safe, and he was healthy.  I was so happy.

I got to nurse him for the first time, and he was a champ at eating (still is, he doesn't miss many meals ;) )

Then we let everyone in to hold him.

May 5, 2014 at about 2 PM we got to take our little bundle home :)

Look how tiny he was in his car seat.  The straps were as tight as they could possibly go.

In this picture he weighed 5 lbs.  SO LITTLE!

I am going to be better at blogging from now on so I can document Jack's baby hood a little better than I have been.

See you soon!

Country Music-Country Comfort

As you all have experienced, I've been a little blue lately.

Country music has always been my favorite and when I'm feeling down. I can usually find a song on 97.7 The Wolf, or 650 KMTI to cheer me up.

So, Today, you get a list of songs I love brought to you by the country artists who complete my life.

1. Miranda Lambert. She sings GREAT angry songs. and some really awesome slower, inspirational ones too.

I love this new song Miranda released not too long ago. It's such a great song to sing along to!

This was the song that made me love Miranda. She's kind of a bad ass.
(excuse the language, but she is.)

And then there is this song.  I love it. It makes me cry. It makes me smile. The other day my brother and I were talking about what would happen to the house we grew up in in about 100 years when our parents don't live there anymore.  He mentioned that we should rent it out, and it kind of just broke my heart. I have so many memories there. So much love is in that house. I don't know that I could let random strangers live there and trash it?  Any way. Love this song

There are a few other songs from Miranda that I love, but I feel like I've spent long enough on her.

If you're interested a few other songs I would recommend from her Gun Powder and Lead, White Liar, and this duet with her hubby Blake Shelton You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma.

They are SOOOOO FREAKING perfect together.

That brings us to our next group who are So right.  Thompson Square.

This couple is so great!  I love them. They were married before they got famous and they will continue to be married FOREVER!

This song, Are You Gunna Kiss Me or Not? Was the song that made me LOVE them. I saw them when they opened for Lady Antebellum in Salt Lake City last February on Valentines and didn't really know who they were until I heard this song.  LOVE IT!

This life would kill me if I didn't have you. How true this is. Keith keeps me grounded. I love him and I'm sure this life would kill me "If I Didn't Have You."

This is just a GREAT song. Listen to it.

Next Country Crush is Hunter Hayes. Are You Kidding ME? This KID IS SMOKING!

I love him, and I want my children to be just like him. I want them to sing and make me swoon with pride!

I love when this song comes on, I just sing and sing. "Somebody's Heartbreak"

Yum, "Wanted"

And finally. "Storm Warning"

Next is Taylor Swift. I've loved her since the beginning, you've all heard her songs so I'll just give you the best right this second. Because its really fun to sing to.

"I Knew You Were Trouble"

Finally. We have Tim. Tim McGraw I mean.  Oh Timmy.

Oh Timmy Darling, I've loved you forever.

Tim and Faith are such a great couple. I love when they sing duets

Oldie but a goodie!

Really I love when Tim sings duets at all.

Especially when its with T-Sizzle and Keith Urban!

And I'll leave you with one final song!

My favorite woman singing about my favorite man.  "T-Swifts Tim McGraw"

Long time no blog...

Once again, I have proven that my blogging dedication is sub-par.

I really need to make a blogging schedule and put it in my phone... "REMINDER: Blog at least once a week, I mean comeon! its not like blogging is a laborious task like... oh, I dunno, LAUNDRY!

There's an idea, once a week I will tell Keith that he has to do the dishes and the laundry cause I have to blog :) there's a thought! ;)  (I'll make sure to save the dirty undies for that day!)

Anyway so... for the last three months here is an overview!

September:

Keith and I were in a four-wheeler accident (read previous post), Keith had to have surgery on his arm on 9-11 (he was really freaked out about the date) He was out of work for about 8 weeks in total, and it definitely took a toll financially, but as always, we are livin' on love.  He has a really intense scar that freaks me out every time I look at it.   -->

Right??! HUGE PIECE OF HARDWARE!
He has a huge, HUGE piece of hardware in his arm. The first thing he said to me when he woke up was:
"Kayla, can I still go on a plane? Or will they stop me in security?"
What a silly goose!

It was about an hour long surgery. We were all a little worried because the night he broke his arm, he had a reaction to the anesthesia, and didn't wake up for like 4 hours after they put him under.  But he woke right up after!
Keith the day after the accident: Mazee was his buddy, she never left his side, look how miserable they are.. :(
<--This is a cute picture of Keithy when he woke up and they let me go back to see him. What a cutie patooty! He was in high spirits the whole time, he even told our nurse that she was "the nicest EVER!" and that she reminded him of his best friend Kellie's mom, Laura.  (She really did though, it was cute!)  He was a trooper, he only took the pain killers for the first few days after surgery, and he always refused to take the whole dose.  He told me, Kayla, if I was all doped up, who would take care of you?  (He's such a sweetheart right?)   The doctor was amazed at how quickly he recovered.

October:
They got matching Rat Fink hoodies,
they were excited, can't you tell?

October was exciting, Keith got to go back to work in the middle of the month, and then.. BIG NEWS: KAYDEN AND JILL GOT MARRIED!! On October 19, 2012. At the cabin. It was BEAUTIFUL! and I gained another sister, that puts the count up to 2 SISTERS! (and 2 Brothers) They went to Moab for their honeymoon, don't you love the "Just Hitched" Rhino Sign?
Keith and I had the awesome opportunity to take Jill's bridals, it was so fun! (this is a picture of my mom under Jill's dress saving it from going in the water while we were shooting!

Later in the month, we went to Tuacahn with Ricky and Lynnzie, to see Thriller, it was so great, I want to go back about a million more times!!!  It was amazing, I was entertained the entire time.

My favorite part? THE ZOMBIES!!! I FED TWO OF THEM!.. okay, let me explain, they did not eat my brain, I fed them my caramel corn :) :) it was so much fun.  ---> These are the zombies that we met after at Denny's (It was cool to see them, they remembered me).

Thanks Ricky and Lynn for inviting us and for everything you always do for us! WE LOVE YOU :)

November:

Thanksgiving month, it was really quite uneventful, lots of paper work we had to fill out to get some assistance with medical bills (I mean come on, we just got married!)  We celebrated our three month anniversary, it was the first month we didn't have a Dr's adventure on our anniversary, or the say after.  It was fun, Keith made dinner (he's a great cook!).

We won this turkey at Gunnison Market because I was standing on number one... and then I went to the bathroom and made Keith stand on number one... So technically... I WON! :)   You can see Mazee is not impressed with my need to take pictures of everything, but I'm loving the iPhone with its handy dandy camera that can take pictures without that awkward... I can't see anything problem.

Other than that, we celebrated Thanksgiving at our house with Keith's parents.  (I made... umm the rolls?) and I bought a pie... OH yes, and I made a ham... Which I thought was gross cause it was a really cheap ham... but Keith liked it, and thats what matters!

We also got to put up our very own Christmas Tree and Decorations, in our (sort of ours, its actually our landlords but we live here, so its ours) home!!!

We were so excited about Christmas that the say after Thanksgiving we put our tree up, and the lights on our house were up before that!

That brings us to... DECEMBER... the best time of the year!

As most of you know, my mom is really NOT into Christmas, and I fear that did rub off on me just a little bit...  BUT my husband is like Ol' Saint Nick himself.. (okay, except that he is a bean pole) and he is full of the Christmas Spirit, he has really got me into it!  I was so excited to decorate our tree.... and I personally think it is the best one I have ever seen (not that I am biased or anything.. ;) )

But really, tell me you don't agree? I think its gorgeous!  -->

This month we celebrated our four month anniversary!! Yay!! Let me tell you, I love this man more today than I thought I could ever love anyone.

When you go through hard things it really makes you stronger as a couple.

My philosophy:  If one has never experienced true sorrow, one will never experience true happiness.

I really honestly believe that 110%  We have had some trouble, and now, we are closer than ever.

My Bestest Friend Kellie is going to write a song about Keith and me, its going to be called. "No Milk, Just Love." It will be a hit!  The milk reference is because Milk is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive at Wal*Mart.  I mean $3.20 for a gallon of milk... PLEASE!!!

That brings us to today... The 13th of December :) Way excited for Christmas :)

I promise I will be better at this blogging stuff!

Some Bad News

So.. with all this good that we've had lately, a wedding, starting school, Keith's promotion... I suppose something bad was bound to happen, although no one ever hopes for the worst.

One week ago today, Sunday, September 2, 2012, Keith and I were in a four-wheeling accident, I was driving, and I hit a rock, it ripped the handle bars out of my hands and I lost control, my adrenaline started pumping and told me we either needed to jump or we would wreck into the ditch and tree.  So I half jumped, half fell off the four wheeler, we were going about 30 MPH down Manti Canyon. We were on our way down the main road from Skyline drive, only about 2 miles from the top.

Keith, being the hero he is, tried to save me, in the process he ripped my pants.  And broke his arm... Bad. the only thing I remember is seeing Keith's arm dangling.  I have never seen anything so gross in my life.  We hurried down the mountain (its a good thing Keith's family was with us.) I landed on my face, shoulder, and elbow.  I was really sore, but I knew nothing was broken. Nadean checked me out and gave me the okay. Keith however, wasn't so lucky.  We rushed to Gunnison Valley Hospital and got him checked out. The Dr. that was there didn't know how to go about fixing it so he sent us up to Mountain View Hospital in Payson.  Dr. Wallentine put him out and set it.  He sent us home to be careful, and we were to come back on Friday to see if it is staying.

So we went home, and the week that insued was really rough.  Keith was in so much pain.  (Plus he was allergic to the medicine he was on)  So we went back on Friday.  We found out he has to get surgery on Tuesday, they're going to put a plate and some pins in to hold it.  He's really scared, so any thoughts and prayers you have for him would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys

Kayla
